Concordia Lutheran Seminary Guild

Devoted to Service through the use of Talents and Resources to Support the Seminary and its Students, our Future Pastors

What you can do: Pray! Recruit! Be a member! Be informed! Contribute!

CLS Guild is a group of dedicated Christians eager to serve the Lord by their Interest; to stimulate a deeper interest in the seminary and the Guild among the members of Lutheran Church—Canada congregations.

Support; to provide special extras for student life.

Enthusiasm; to keep congregation members informed of the needs of the seminary that they may be moved to help the Guild with their efforts and gifts.

New Executive Committee

The CLS Guild recently elected its new Executive Committee. Audrey Maschmeyer was welcomed unanimously as the President of the Guild. Audrey contributes active long-term involvement with the Guild and with other community involvement. She has been a member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Bruderheim, AB and now lives in St. Albert. The other Executive members by elected by acclamation are former Past President and now Vice-president, Marilyn Jansen (Sherwood Park); Guild Representative, Marlene Astley (Edmonton); Treasurer, Hilda Schoepp (Stony Plain); and returning for another year as Secretary, Lillian Bulman (Edmonton).

Becoming a Member

Guild Membership is open to all members of Lutheran Church—Canada who have a desire to share in this ministry.

There is an annual membership fee of $5.00 per person. The annual membership drive is the Guild’s only source of income. Donations, over and above the $5.00, are appreciated, allowing “more good work that can be done.” A receipt for income tax purposes is issued for gifts.

Guild Representatives

One contact person in each congregation promotes membership and support for the Guild by informing the people of its need and activities.

She/he is sent a form to be used to sign up new and renewed memberships each year. The representative sends us the membership dues /gifts collected, along with a list of the names and address, how much each person has contributed. We mail receipts to the rep, for distribution. Twice a year, we will mail to the representative a newsletter for distributing and sharing with all the congregation, and members.

Guild Projects

Past projects accomplished by the Guild include: forty Lutheran Service Book hymnals & accompaniment books; Baptismal Font for Seminary; Pew Bibles; paraments; window blinds for classrooms and lounge; dining lounge microwave, water cooler, dishwasher, freezer & coffee urn; air hockey and foosball tables; Seminary brochure; display unit for conventions; golf & sweat shirts for seminary promotion, and many others. The guild has purchased a postage machine for the seminary which indirectly helps students through the money raised by fund raising mail-outs.

Ongoing Projects include: Biblical software/book grant, books for first year students, graduation expenses, annual Sem wives retreat; Take Wing (airfare & stipend); Commencement expenses; food cupboard supplies; Christmas & Easter gifts; postage & paper for mailings; Hospitality Events throughout the year; Endowment Fund contributions.

Suggestions for Projects for an Organization within a Congregation:

Some of our students are struggling financially; some are married men; some have families. We encourage special food donations (lists can be provided) at Thanksgiving, LWML Rallies, and special gatherings. Donations of money, noted for “food pantry,” are appreciated. These gifts are helpful when pockets and cupboards are bare.

A Newsletter is sent out periodically.
